Tips

Try not to take calcium, zinc or vitamin E supplements at the same time as iron as they can interfere with iron absorption.

To also 'top up' iron stores through diet, use blackstrap molasses, plums, prunes, kelp, bananas, green leafy vegetables, apricots and peas. Also include foods high in vitamin C to help with iron absorption. 

Nettle tea can also be useful as nettle is rich in iron, chlorophyll and vitamin C.

Spirulina smoothies are a great way to start the day and a great source of iron and other important nutrients. Just add pineapple juice, banana and Spirulina to a blender, mix and enjoy!
